“A step in the right direction”

Stepping Out

After our Saturday classroom sessions, recreational activities known as Stepping Out sessions are offered. The goals of these Stepping Out session, which usually last between one and two hours, are to provide our students with a variety of experiences beyond the classroom. During the fall, Stepping Out includes academic-related activities such as school tours and skill training. In the spring, we engage in fun field trips and community service opportunities that are designed to build students' social skills. Past events have included bowling, laser tag, field day, interview workshops, working with children at Family Gateway Apartments, making Easter baskets for the Genesis Women's Shelter, and volunteering at the St. Vincent De Paul donation center. Through these activities our students and mentors are able to give back to the community in meaningful ways and learn to incorporate volunteer projects into their own lives.
